I did a lot of traveling in August so most of the books this month are beach reads. I did read a few new authors I found through BookBub and Kindle Unlimited and somehow I ended up with three magic books. I guess I needed some magic in my birthday month 🙂
Note – I am adding a couple new things to help you determine what books you want to read. First is the acronym KU to books I found on Kindle Unlimited and the second is the heat factor. For Romance and Chic Lit books I will let you know how sexy the book is by a range of 1 – 5. 1 being PG and 5 being SUPER HOT (keep your significant other/toy close).
- Harry Potter and the Cursed Child – Parts One and Two by J.K. Rowling
- The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga
- Welcome To Fat Chance, Texas by Celia Bonaduce
- The Sweet Spot by Stephanie Evanovich
- Husband Heel by Louise Cusack
Gone with the Wind bu Margaret Mitchell
I tried…I really did…but I just couldn’t handle reading Scarlett. She was a typical spoiled, rich, mean girl who threw a fit each time she didn’t get her way. I was so tired of her attitude and her whining about being in love with someone else’s husband that I decided I couldn’t read anymore. I started watching the movie but fell asleep because it was so long. What I do remember was that it was pretty close to the book so if I do feel like wasting 10hours of my life I will watch it again.
The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga
Ever been to India? This book will run true in many aspects and scare you of drivers in others. I found that this book opens a great line of questioning. The caste system is more intense and complex than the author makes it. I only know this because I asked my India colleagues. Interesting writing style and approach to explaining India/Indian culture. My Indian friends didn’t like the book because it told too many dark stories but I found many of the stories true. Read with a grain of salt. The story, in general, is funny and worth reading especially if you will be traveling to India.
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child – Parts One and Two by J.K. Rowling – (Stageplay) It was SO great to be in this world again. Not quite a “book” so for some this could be difficult to read at first but you get used to it after a while. I LOVED this book and I am looking for flights now to go see it live…
A Secret Between Friends by Serenity Woods – (Romance) Bucket list – check! New Zealand awesomeness – check! Veterans – check! What more do you need?
The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri – (Fiction) I read this because it was on the summer reading list for one of my teens. I found it interesting and not surprising for Indians who have been living in America for a long time. I found that I cared more about the parents and understanding the sacrifice they made to live here.
Husband Heel by Louise Cusack – (Romance) Book #3 in this series and the author didn’t disappoint. I can’t wait till the next one!
Two Heirs for the Billionaire and Billionaire Baby Blues by Mia Caldwell (Romance) KU and Heat = 3. Two Heirs was a book that kept flashing on my Kindle and eventually I decided to read it. I am glad I did! It was super cute and fun. I loved the characters so I had to read the next one. Fun, fast reads!
Welcome To Fat Chance, Texas by Celia Bonaduce (Fiction) Heat = 2. Remember the Richard Prior movie Brewster’s Millions? This book kind of reminded me of that movie. A crazy old man dies and leaves all his money to strangers. The characters are zany, fun and likable and the plot is ridiculous and awesome. Fun, fast read!
Prince With Benefits by Nicole Snow (Royal Romance) KU and Heat = 4. Typical but I love these types of books.
The Reluctant Bachelorette by Rachael Anderson (Chic Lit) KU and Heat = 2 If you are a fan of the Bachelor or Bachelorette than you will love this book. I can totally see my BFF roping me into something like this.
Hex on the Beach by Gina LaManna (Paranormal) KU – Have I mentioned that I wish I had magic? If you like magic and funny characters then you will love this book.
Beauty: an Everland Ever After Tale by Caroline Lee (Retelling Fairytales) KU and Heat = 1. Beauty and the Beast is my favorite fairytale and this version is really good especially for book lovers.
Match Me If You Can by Michele Gorman (Chic Lit) KU – Fun, fast read with characters we can all relate to and probably have friends like. Great beach read.
Witch is When All Was Revealed by Adele Abbott (Paranormal PI) KU – I accidentally read the 12th book in the series so it was a little confusing but I liked it enough that I decided to check out the first book.
Payback and a Bottle of Merlot by Bria Marche (Chic Lit) A little annoying in places but in general its a good book about getting over your ex and moving on. Normally, I avoid breakup books but this one sounded funny and it was.
The Governess Affair by Courtney Milan (Historical Romance) Heat = 3. Short-story with a strong stubborn woman and an equally stubborn man. Good read if you like this genre.
The Sweet Spot by Stephanie Evanovich (Romance) Heat = 4. I am so glad I found this when it went on sale on Book Bub! I loved the first book Big Girl Panties where it mentioned this couple. She brought them to life in this book and it was fun.
The Billionaire’s Love Story Series by Lily Zante (Romance) KU and Heat = 4. Yes, another typical poor woman and a sexy billionaire but I am a sucker for these kind of books and since they are KI books it’s easy! Fun, sexy and in this series a touch of drama.
Lights Camera Marriage by Elizabeth Bemis (Chic Lit) KU and Heat =2. Another reality TV like book with a HEA. I am sure real TV reality stars wish they were as lucky. Also makes you wonder if there is something to be said for arranged marriages.
