It was a busy month but I had time to read! Falling in love with Brad Meltzner so there will be a lot of his books on my lists going forward. Trying to read more mysteries and random fiction in general because Paranormal and Chic Lit are seeming too formula right now…that and those are usually for vacays!
Scrappy Project Management by Kimberly Wiefling (NF) – I loved this book! It was a great reminder of how I usually run projects. Kimberly affirmed that all my instincts were correct was great. This is a great book for anyone who is new to Project Management or for someone who needs a refresher.
His Magesty’s Dragon (Temeraire Series) by Naomi Navik – (Fantasy) I love dragons and I really liked this book. I love the relationship that was formed between Temeraire and his rider. This is different from your other dragon books in a sense that instead of just one rider you have a whole crew of people who are with the dragon and they are fighting in a war. I love how the author combined fantasy with real life in these books (England vs Bonaparte)
Vamps Series by Nancy Collins – (YA) Cute teenage vampire series. Not much different than most but fast and fun reads.
Lean In by Sheryl Sandberg – (NF) This book has had a lot controversy around it but I don’t see why. I think it is an honest account of what Sheryl thinks women need to do to get ahead in business. I am tired of suger coating things…we need to know what’s real. For the most part this book was really relevant to be but towards the end I lost interest because she was talking about being a working mom. Other than that…fantastic!
Lady Almina and the Real Downton Abbey by Fiona Carnarvon – (NF) If you love the series you will love this book. Great insiders look into life at that time. It isn’t a fast read but its interesting and there pictures.
Night Pleasures (Dark Hunter Series) by Sherrilyn Kenyon – (Paranormal) Typical vampire that’s not really a vampire but more and a girl who doesn’t want to fall in love. Typical but for paranormal fans this is a great series and fast reads.
Where’d You Go, Bernadette by Maria Semple – (Fiction) A VERY different book. Written mostly in email form it tells an interesting story. Bernadette is a strange bird, which her emails contest to, but in the end you are cheering for her and her daughter. Very interesting read and a great book if you are trying to read something out of your comfort zone.
Lizzy Harrison Loses Control by Pippa Wright – (Chic Lit) Her BFF tells her to do something out of control and she does…even if it is by accident. Super cute story especially if you like Chic Lit based in London.
Unsuitable Men by Pippa Wright – (Chic Lit) This one was just as cute and although similar still very different. Her long term boyfriend breaks up with her and her friends and aunt suggest that she try dating a bunch of “Unsuitable Men” until a Suitable one comes along. Of course he was always there but it was fun journey.
Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan – (Fiction) Another very different and interesting book. It’s a fantasy mystery involving magic…or so you think but the mystery is solved using Google and other bits of technology. That’s the part I loved about it….the author mentions ebooks and pirating etc… Funny. Great read!
Lover at Last (Brotherhood Series) by JR Ward – (Paranormal) I love this series and this was an Awesome book! Gay sex is pretty normal in paranormal books but to actually have a whole book dedicated to a gay relationship is Fantastic! Round of applause to the author…what was funny is this book was released the week of the court ruling! It will be interesting to see how many more books like this are released now.
Rush (Breathless #1) by Maya Banks – (Romance) Very sexy book and a LOT like Fifty Shades of Grey. Obviously it has its differences but same general concept. Great book if you like FSOG and need to add a little spice to your life.
Red Velvet Revenge by Jenn McKinlay – (Mystery Light) This is the 4th in a series but the first one I read. It’s a good and fast read especially if you like cupcakes and rodeos.
Dead Even by Brad Meltzer – (Mystery) WOW! This really was a page turner. A married couple one a defense attorney the other a prosecutor on the same case…both afraid the other will die if they don’t win. Of course you have to keep reading to find out what happens…who will win? Will their marriage make it? Lots of drama!
The Book of Lies by Brad Meltzer – (Mystery) WOW! I am just discovery Brad Meltzer. This book was written because of his personal obsession with the creator of the Superman comic and the mystery behind his dad’s death/murder. If you liked the Divenchy Code then you will love following these people around looking for the weapon that killed Able.
