August Reviews

I started my dream job at the beginning of this month and my commute is even longer so I feel like it is a win win for me!  I decided to read longer books while commuting though so my book count is really low. That and I had a lot of work to do for my other part time job so I spent my night and weekend reading time on that project.  Yes, Yes, I got my priorities all messed up…but unfortunately I don’t paid to read (yet).

Speaking of which!  I was asked to review a book this month and I think they found me through this blog!  How exciting 🙂  In case you are wondering and want to check it out yourself it was Wind and Shadow.  Check it out and support a new author 🙂  I am more than willing to review more books…my contact information is on the About page.

Mistress by James Patterson – (Mystery) Another hit from my favorite author! A fast read that keeps you on your toes the whole way through.

Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo – (YA) This was book was quite surprising with lots of twists and turns!  I was so excited that she was chosen to be apart of the Grisha and their weird world…I love it when young women are powerful and intelligent.  It’s her intelligence that creates the twists and turns.  I love that her bff Mal came to rescue her.  A fast read and I can’t wait for the next one to find out what happens to her!!

Pros and Cons by Janet Evanovich – (Light Mystery) This was the prequel short story to the Heist and it really set the stage.  I love these characters and can’t wait for more!

Revenge Wears Prada by by Lauren Weisberger – (Chic Lit) I was HUGELY disappointed in this book.  I loved the first one but this book was slow, bitter and disappointing.  It takes place 10 years later.  If you HAVE to know what happens…read it but really…I would just leave it alone.  Long and slow…not a good combination for me.

Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter – (Fiction) I LOVED this book!  Its been on best seller books forever and for a good reason!  It has a lot of characters, you go back in forth in time and there are several side stories…and this sounds like a lot…but the author makes it work well.  If you like WWII books and followed the gossip about Liz Taylor and Richard Burton then this book is for you!  You can’t help but cheer for the characters.  Its a fast read because you can’t wait for them to reunite.

Accidental Sex Goddess by Lexi Ryan – (Chic Lit) This was a SUPER CUTE book.  Of course its the male best friend is in love with the female best friend but its fun and fast.  A perfect beach read.

Inferno by Dan Brown – (Mystery) I read the first 100 pages in just over 30mins.  It read like a movie…I couldn’t get enough!  Then…it turned into a travel guide.  The story was still there and it was just as exciting but it slowed down for me because he went into too many details about the art, and the buildings etc… Some people may love that but I was always wanting to get back to the action.

Wind and Shadow by Tori L. Ridgewood – (Paranormal) Great start to a series and can’t wait to read the next one! You immediately want Rayvin and Grant to hook up. Its a fast read with great characters including a creepy vampire. I love how the back story is told, normally when they are told in pieces like that it makes me crazy but Ridgewood does it differently and it works!

The Vampire with the Dragon Tattoo by Kerrelyn Sparks – (Paranormal) I LOVE this series!  I practically devoured this book while on vacation in New Orleans…which was entirely appropriate 🙂 This series has a lot of action, great fun characters with a splash of romance.

Audio Books:

Recently I have been listening to the Charlaine Harris – Sookie Stackhouse series and the Harry Potter series.  The narrators for both are awesome.  I love the HP series so much I read every book at least twice…some books more and listening to them is capturing my heart all over again.  Just finished the third book…which has always been one of my favorites and I just want to adopt Harry all over again.  If you are looking to reunite with old friends I would recommend listening to these.

  1. I loved reading Wind and Shadow by Tori Ridgewood. Can’t wait to read the next book in the series, Blood and Fire: Book Two of The Talbot Trilogy. It will be released February 12, 2014!
