June 2014 Book Reviews

Big Books

I don’t know where this picture came from originally but four different people sent it to me on Facebook. For those of you who don’t recognize the beat, it’s Baby Got Back by Sir Mix-A-Lot era 1992. The original talks about women with big butts so both the original and this version apply to me. 🙂

June is the start of the summer so my choice of books this month are mostly on the light chic lit side. I did read couple of mysteries that were pretty exciting and very intense.

Gold TOP five.

  1. Mr. Mercedes by Stephen King
  2. Rumpel’s Prize by Marie Hall
  3. Alphas After Dark by Various
  4. Top Secret Twenty-One by Janet Evanovich
  5. Invisible by James Patterson

His Comfort and Joy by Jessica Bird – (Chic Lit) 2nd in the series and its a quick and easy read.  Take it to the beach with you…

American Assassin by Vince Flynn – (Mystery)  Mitch Rapp #1 – I started this series years ago in the middle so I decided to start at the beginning. Great beginning to a great series!  Mitch Rapp is very BAD ASS and he didn’t hold back in this book…maybe only more so!

Take a Chance by Abbi Glines – (Chic Lit) I ran across this book by accident and I really like this author (I took several to Vegas with me later). This author has several series and they all revolve around rock stars.  They are a little far fetched but one can hope…

Marked by Temptation by Deanna Chase – (Romance – Short Story) Part of the Alpha’s After Dark series.  Fast fun and sexy…I want more!

Rumpel’s Prize by Marie Hall – (Retelling Fairy Tales – Short Story) Another story in Alpha’s After Dark series about Rumpelstiltskin and finding love.  It was so good I downloaded the rest in the series (this one is #8).

Mr. Mercedes by Stephen King – (Mystery) A stand alone mystery that will surprise you. No paranormal weirdness or magic – just straight mystery but it’s intense, has lots of twists, turns and surprises.  I will try not to spoil it but I hope he writes more with the 3 main characters!

The Start Up of You by Ben Casnocha and Reid Hoffman – (NonFiction) Since I listened to this book I have quoted it or recommended it at least ten times. It’s a great book to read/or listen to when making career changes or looking for a job. Of course it references LinkedIn a lot but only to give you great pointers!

The Darkest Kiss by Keri Arthur – (Paranormal)  Riley #6 Not as hot and sexy as some of the other books but still full of mystery, drama and sexual tension!

Top Secret Twenty-One by Janet Evanovich – (Mystery) Stephanie Plum never disappoints. This book is full of laughs, mystery and sexual tension…will she ever chose between Ranger and Joe? This series was my original beach read series!

Invisible by James Patterson – (Mystery)  A lot different than most of JP’s books but intense and nail biting all the way through.  I recommend reading on the weekend!

Alphas After Dark by Various – (Short Stories) A box set of books full of sexy men and women.  Beware…most of these books are parts of a series that you will HAVE to buy next.  Not that I know from experience…
