June 2015 Book Reviews

beach-reads

Its summer time which means Beach Reads! It is only July and it has been hard trying to save these books for vacations…I still have Santa Barbara and Aruba coming up!  Thank God some of my favorite authors are releasing books this month!

Many of the books below were free from either Nook or Kindle.  If you haven’t checked out the free books from either you are missing out on some real gems. You ever know what you will find and fall in love with.

  1. Shopping for a Billionaire by Julia Kent
  2. Delicious! by Ruth Reichl
  3. Tell the Wolves I’m Home by Carol Rifka Brunt
  4. Beach Town by Mary Kay Andrews
  5. Deep North by Barry Knister

Deep North by Barry Knister – (Mystery) 2nd book in the Brenda Contay series and another home run! Even on vacation Brenda gets herself in major trouble. This book isn’t for the light of heart, its full of twists, turns, and suspense. Barry describes the scenery so well I want to vacation there!

Tell the Wolves I’m Home by Carol Rifka Brunt – (Fiction) This is not a beach read but it is a must read. We read this as our book club book for June and I wasn’t really sure what I was getting myself into. I am showing my age a little but I was in 5th grade when the AIDS epidemic became news and I remember the fear and lack of knowledge about the disease. This book is based in the mid 80s and tells a really personal story, it was a little creepy in places but in general a great book.

Unspoken Temptation by Gabbie Duran – (Chit Lit)  This is book #4 and it’s Trey’s story. I couldn’t deal with the drama of the third book in this series but I really liked this one. Fun fast sexy read.

Finders Keepers by Stephen King – (Mystery) Bill Hodges #2 I was so excited for this book and having the “gang back together”! The first chapter threw me for a loop. I wasn’t sure if I had the right book, and I was really confused but then I figured it out. So…if you start this and get confused…keep reading!! I love that young people get to be the heroes! If you are a SK fan you will not be disappointed.

Delicious! by Ruth Reichl – (Fiction) My chiropractor recommended this book to me and I couldn’t put it down!! If you love books about food, WW2 and under appreciated assistants you will love this book. I can’t say enough about this book…fun, fast delicious read!

The Sleuth Sisters by Maggie Pill – (Mystery) If you have sisters like I do you will get how they can make you crazy but you love them anyway. This is a mystery that brings sisters together to help an innocent man. They all have different personalities and roles they play in the family and the mystery.

Beach Town by Mary Kay Andrews – (Chic Lit) Can I move here? Great story with a little bit of everything; intrigue, romance, glamour and mystery. Great for reading on a beach or at the pool 🙂

His Plain-Jane Cinderella by Jennie Adams – (Chic Lit) Who doesn’t love a Cinderella story especially when it’s the girl next door and an injured solider.

How to Teach Filthy Rich Girls by Zoey Dean – (Chic Lit) Fast fun cute read with a heart. Beware – it will pull at your heart.

Alan Turing: The Enigma by by Andrew Hodges, Douglas R. Hofstadter – (NF) I was really looking forward to reading this book but it was badly written so I didn’t finish it. I did read enough to learn that the movie didn’t have it all right but no surprise there.

Handbags and Homicide by Dorothy Howell – (Light Mystery) Shopaholic meets Stephanie Plum.  If you want a fun read but not too romantic then this is the series for you!

Lady Bess by Claudy Conn – (Historical Romance) Not unlike a lot of the other books in this genre.  Lady Bess is a strong woman that refuses to cower and conform to what is expected.

Shopping for a Billionaire by Julia Kent – (Chic Lit) WOW!! WOW!! WOW!! This book had me LOLing throughout the entire book.  It was free on Nook and it was so good I bought the box set (1-6 with a bonus). I can’t wait to read more from this author!
