August 2015 Book Reviews

summer-reading

The picture above will be me next week in Aruba. This month is more beach reads for people like me who refuse to let summer go!  I also caught up with a few of my favorite authors and series…

  1. That Baby by Jillian Dodd
  2. The Bourbon King by J.R. Ward
  3. Eighth Grave After Dark by Darynda Jones
  4. Not Quite Series by Catherine Bybee
  5. Crystal and Wand (The Talbot Trilogy Book 3) by Tori L. Ridgewood

Scandal with a Prince by Nicole Burnham – (Romance) This book is a modern fairy tale that every woman wants…or do they? Not a super sexy book as the title may have you believe but cute with a happily ever after.

The Bourbon King by J.R. Ward – (Romance) I love JR Ward and this is a break from her Paranormal world but I devoured it! A look into a world of money, derbies, love, lies and lust.

Down the Rabbit Hole: Curious Adventures and Cautionary Tales of a Former Playboy Bunny by Holly Madison – (Nonfiction) I picked this book up thinking it was something different but then I couldn’t put it down!  I never watched the show but this insider look into a fantasy was extremely touchy and entertaining.

Green Eyes in Las Vegas by A.R. Winters – (Light Mystery) Stephanie Plum lands in Las Vegas… well not really but this series is just as wacky.  A crazy family, a love triangle and mysteries to be solved…my favorite combination!

Eighth Grave After Dark by Darynda Jones – (Paranormal) I listened to this audibly and was surprised it was narrated by Lorelei King who also narrates the Stephanie Plum series. This series is full of sarcasm, suspense and sexual tension but this book added a touch of heart. Charlie Davidson, the grim reaper, had a hard choice to make and took us down a surprising path.  I am looking forward to seeing where the author is going to take us.

Fatal Fortune by Victoria Laurie – (Paranormal) I don’t know how I missed this release last year! I LOVE this series and can’t get enough of Abby Cooper, psychic private eye. This book was a little more serious and dangerous as she tries to save her best friend.

Sense of Deception by Victoria Laurie – (Paranormal) The good thing about not reading the last book is that I get to read two in a row! This time Abby is trying to help a mom get off death row… suspenseful, fun and fast read!  Perfect beach read for people who don’t want super sappy books.

Not Quite Series by Catherine Bybee – (Chic Lit) One weekend I devour the Bourbon Kings book and then the next week I inhale this series. Four fun books with great realistic characters that have you rooting for them! These are the type of books that have you believing it really could happen to you.  A waitress can fall in love with a millionaire…

Crystal and Wand (The Talbot Trilogy Book 3) by Tori L. Ridgewood – (Paranormal) This was one non stop roller coaster ride. From the beginning to the end, it was full of action and suspense with a touch of the sexy stuff. The final book in the series did not disappoint those of us who have been with on the journey with Tori. This series leaves you on the edge of your seat, biting your nails and shouting at the bad guys! A must read for paranormal lovers…

No Ordinary Billionaires by J.S. Scott – (Chic Lit) Funny how all the books are about billionaires now…I guess millionaires just don’t go as far anymore. This was a fun fast read with fun characters. The series is free on Kindle Unlimited!

Dirty Coffee by K Noon – (Light Mystery) For those of us who haven’t met our billionaires it’s easy to imagine why our character does what she does. This book takes you on a wild ride and reminds you that there easy rides.

Fifty Shades of Jungle Fever by L.V. Lewis – (Erotica)   There are many parodies out there but this is the only one that tempted me to read it. It followed along the same line of Fifty Shades but with more flava and grit. If you liked the original you will like this one… especially if you thought the original was a little whiny.

Make Me by Lee Child – (Mystery) Reacher #20 I love this series and the adventures that Reacher gets into but this one felt a little off. If you are a fan its a definite read but it won’t be on favorites list.

The Billionaire’s Step Series by Michael Adams – (Chic Lit) A little too coincidental and fast for me but in general a fun read. Sexy, romantic with a hint to danger.

That Baby by Jillian Dodd – (Chic Lit) Wow!! The author warns you at the beginning that she is going to take you on an emotional ride and boy did she! I laughed and then cried and breathed in relief. All of these books have been emotional but real. The guy gets the girl but it wasn’t easy but no one ever said life was. On a personal note, I love that she brought some Chi Omega traditions into life.  Go XO!!

Truth or Die by James Patterson – (Mystery) JP does it again! It has all of the classic favorites, a prodigy, a sexy lawyer who is also a bad ass, a race across the country to get answers, explosions, shootouts and a possible love connection.

Red Roses in Las Vegas by A.R. Winters – (Light Mystery) It just got personal, which usually means crazier!  Fun fast read…
